The fact that drugs get in our drinking water is so alarming.

Â

It makes things like toxins in water seem like old threats.

Â

But today, water supplies across the country have trace element of drugs.

Â

This discovery is causing experts and ordinary citizens to ask the question: how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water?

Â

Â

When a probe finds drugs in drinking water, it sets off all kinds of bells and whistles.

Â

The first area of concern for most people is how the drugs end up in their drinking water.

Â

The next thing people need to realize is that not all of the drugs they take stay in their bodies.

Â

When drugs are ingested or injected into our body, we do not necessarily use all of the drugs.

Â

These excess drugs get flushed out in urine and feces.

Â

Â

Some say this is a good thing since pharmaceuticals can overpower your system.

Â

On the other hand, it’s not welcome news for the ecosystem.

Â

These drug elements find their way into our streams, rivers and other water systems, as well as into our municipal water treatment facilities.

Â

Â

Â

As you might know, addressing the quality of tap water is nothing new.

Â

But the newest threat of drugs in our waterways is just one more to add to our already tainted water.

Â

But simply asking “how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water” is not enough.

Â

The more urgent problem lies in the fact that such drugs are not easily filtered out of our drinking water.

Â

Â

When a scientific probe finds drugs in drinking water, it usually reveals what levels and what type of drugs.

Â

A study by the Associate Press, for example, found low levels of drugs from over-the-counter

Â

medications to highly potent narcotics.

Â

Still some say that even in small doses, the pharmaceuticals are toxic to the body.

Â

The main reason for this is the fact the people might be ingesting them over a continuous period of time.

Â

Â

No one knows just yet what this long-term exposure will do.

Â

The problem of drugs in water is growing rapidly worldwide.

Â

In the Unite States alone, traces of drugs are found in most sources of drinking water.

Â

Â

How do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water supplies? Review the following to brush up on the different types of water sources and their safety:

Â

Â

Underground aquifers supply around 40 percent of the drinking water in the United States. Sadly, drugs can seep into aquifers even in rural areas.

Â

Â

Well-water is not controlled by public water treatment facilities.

Â

People dig wells and have the misguided faith that this is a totally safe way to collect healthy drug-free water.

Â

Â

By and large, bottled water suppliers do not test water for the presence of drugs.

Â

Â

Lastly, don’t be fooled by some water purification devices and companies.

Â

Some ineffective home filtration systems do not filter out all the harmful chemicals and drugs in water and can also become contaminated with drug by-products.

Â

Click on my bio and find out the home filtration systems that do.

How do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water in the first place? Recently we learned that an investigative probe finds drugs in drinking water samples taken from cities across the United States, but Americans are not alone. The same problem has been found in Japan, Canada and Europe. It is likely a problem anywhere in the world with a fairly large population. But, any small town with a hospital probably shares in the risk.Hospitals are one answer to how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water. They commonly flush discontinued and expired medications every month. The things that we flush end up in the environment. They may end up in a river, an ocean or the groundwater, but at some point they contaminate the freshwater sources that people drink from. That’s one reason the probe finds drugs in drinking water, but there are others. All of the medications that a person takes are not used by the body, some are excreted as waste. So, once again, it is flushed down the drain and ends up back in the great outdoors.Another source of surface water contamination, such as rivers and lakes, is farm run-off. The run-off is a source of a variety of contaminants, including parasitic cysts, E-coli and other bacteria, but because farmers place hormone patches behind the ears of cattle to “beef” them up, it is another reason the probe finds drugs in drinking water.Pets are a source in the same way as people are, except that they urinate directly on the ground, for the most part. If they are not flushed, unwanted medications end up in the trash can and eventually in a landfill, where they are buried and with time seep into the soil and into groundwater. There is really no safe way to expose of anything in this society. Everything that we use ends up contaminating surface and groundwater at some point. But, there is another question. How do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water that has already been treated?Scientists say that if wastewater treatment facilities used reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration, they could remove practically all of the medications and avoid returning them to the environment. Then if the proper steps were taken by the drinking water treatment facilities, they could remove even more of the medications. But, since the probe finds drugs in drinking water ready to be sent to the public, the facilities are obviously not doing their jobs. The steps required are expensive for large scale facilities and, of course, it would slow down production to make the necessary changes. So, don’t expect the situation to improve overnight or even over the next decade.Instead of asking, “How do pharmaceuticals get in drinking water,” you might ask “how do I avoid exposure”. The answer is simple and inexpensive. You buy a home filtration device that includes sub-micron, carbon and multi-media filters. Not only will it protect you from the drugs, it will also protect you from chlorine and other chemical contaminants and even the parasitic cysts that I mentioned above.Buying bottled waters is not the right option for many reasons. Just get a purifier. It’s a lot less expensive in the long run and it is more environmentally friendly. The next time an investigative probe finds drugs in drinking water samples, you won’t have to worry.Just to recap. How do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water to begin with? People, pets and farms. What can we do about it? Buy a home purifier.

So how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water, and just how bad is it? Well the truth is it’s getting worse each year as more and more drugs are used, and more dangerous as resistant toxins enter our drinking water.

A recent Associated Press probe finds drugs in drinking water is the latest revelation to hit the headlines.

How do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water, well when we take medication, it goes through our system and we flush it away down to toilet and it enters the sewage system. Most people think that all the drugs dissolve inside their bodies, but a proportion always goes unmetabolized, and this is causing the problems.

Yet another source comes from animals as they are given strong steroids and at least a tenth is not metabolized and ends up in our water supply.. It is very understandable how a probe finds drugs in drinking water, it seems we are under attack from all sides!

One of the things I read that outraged me the most is the fact that the federal government doesn’t require any testing and hasn’t set safety limits for drugs found in drinking water! Trust me, hard to believe but true, even with everyone asking the question how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water.

Our treatment plants are not able to remove these drugs or many of the other potent ones, leaving us at risk of long-term health problems.

The main reason is that it is just not cost effective enough for them to purify all of our water as only a tiny amount is used for drinking.

Another point to remember is that when showering for example, you can absorb over twice as much toxins as you would if you drank water.

It’s not just a matter of how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water, but what will the long term effects of that be on us? Trouble is no-one knows and no-one is doing a long term study on that either, it seems.

We need to protect ourselves these days, and the most popular way is by investing in a good home filtration unit. That way when the next probe finds drugs in drinking water, you won’t have to worry.

The most effective ones use multi-stage filtration, and an activated carbon sub micron filter to get rid of 99% of all contaminants, including all prescription drugs. Read the manufacturers Performance Data Sheet to check exactly what they can get rid of.

I hope I have, at least in part, helped to answer your question, how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water, and hope you will make it a point to help safeguard you and your family’s health not only for now, but for the future as well.

Using pharmaceutical grade fish oil becomes a necessity due to the presence of excessive amounts of contaminants such as mercury, lead, PCBs, etc. in Omega 3 rich fatty fish. Find out the expert facts to help you choose the best product out of many different brands and types of fish oil available in the market.Omega 3s play a vital role in our optimum health and well-being. Fish oil is unarguably one of the best sources of omega 3 fatty acids and fish oil supplements are among the most popular. But it is important to properly choose the most effective and safe products to avoid the health hazards associated with toxins and contaminants.Various reports from leading health care agencies such as the Food Standards agency of UK, Greenpeace International and The Food Safety Authority in Ireland have indicated that a lot of fish oil supplement brands were containing very high levels of heavy metals like lead, mercury, PCBs, etc. and banned pesticides.Although the production of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) had been banned in the 1970s, their presence in the environment will haunt us for hundreds of years or maybe more than that. This is because they degrade very slowly.PCBs are very harmful for animals, marine life, birds and human beings. They are known to cause many adverse health effects such as damage to the immune system, liver, the endocrine and the reproductive system. The National Toxicology program classifies them as “cancer causing agents”.Due to the above reasons, health experts recommend the consumption of molecularly distilled and pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplements. Molecular distillation is the process that separates toxins and contaminants from the oil, so that the resultant purified oil is then encapsulated into supplements. However, it might be difficult to find the right place to buy pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Only a few select producers use molecular distillation. So, it becomes quite essential that you do the right research so that you get the safest and the most effective product free of all toxins and contaminants. Here is a concise list of “worst choice” companies that has been listed by the Environmental Defence. It has compiled and classified these companies as they did not follow the prescribed and the strictest standards with regards to the safe and acceptable levels of contaminants or did not respond to their repeated inquiries. They submitted only partially complete or incomplete data, so the product security of these manufacturers could not be confirmed –Vitamin Shoppe, Springreen, Target, VE Irons, Vitamin World, Rexall, Sonne’s Organic Foods, Luxury, Physiologics, Puritan’s Pride, Nutrition Warehouse, Nature’s Bounty, NOW foods, Holland & Barrett, Department of Pharmacy, Good ‘N Natural, Health from the Sea, American Country Life, GNC. Due to excessive levels of contaminants such as dioxin, The Seven Seas fish oil in the UK has been removed. 10 more brands of fish oil were removed by The Food Safety Authority of Ireland as their levels of dioxins exceeded the latest guidelines set by the European authorities.Cod liver oil and fish liver oil contain the highest levels of contaminants as they are derived from the liver of the fish which is the organ that purifies the blood from harmful toxins such as mercury, etc. So, make sure to avoid them as far as possible. To ensure the highest product safety and effectiveness, you should ensure that you buy only from manufacturers that guarantee the safety of their products and can prove that their products are totally free from ANY toxin and contaminants.Besides that, verify on their website or product label, whether they have given the product’s security guarantee in writing or not. If not, then do not buy such products at all as they are a huge threat to your health.Even though leading organisations like Environmental Defence have done their part to safeguard us from the threat of malpractices of the fish oil manufacturers with regards to toxins and contaminants in their products; the ultimate responsibility to protect the safety of our health lies on us.Visit my website to gain deeper insights into what essential elements you should look for in the highest quality pharmaceutical grade fish oil and what harmful substances you should avoid, so that you can achieve the safest, most effective omega 3 fish oil products and the most value for your money.

Many of the omega 3 oil supplements on the market today are not pharmaceutical fish oil, and therefore leave you at risk of contamination. Let me show you why.

A high quality oil will be pharmaceutical fish oil and will have undergone molecular distillation which removes all the harmful impurities that the fish have picked up in their flesh from our polluted oceans.

This process will just leave the pure concentrated oil, and in fact this can double or even treble the level of omega 3 content.

Many inferior oils don’t undergo this process to save the manufacturer money and enable them to make more profits, but the fact is contaminants like lead, arsenic and mercury can be present in the supplement.

Recently, products were removed from sale in the US and UK after high levels of contamination were found in several brands of omega 3 supplements from fish.

It is absolutely essential if you are pregnant or breast feeding to only take pharmaceutical fish oil to ensure the health of both you and the baby as it is recommended to take a daily supplement to help with the baby’s growth and development.

To get the amazing benefits from this oil, you need to select one with high levels of the most important omega 3, DHA. This provides most of the health benefits as opposed to the other main one, EPA.

Unfortunately, 95% of the supplements out there have higher EPA levels as it is cheaper to produce, so check the label or website carefully and look to get at least 250mg of DHA per tablet or gel for the maximum effectiveness.

As you may know, price is no indicator of quality!

Some of the $50 a month products I have seen contain far less DHA and omega 3’s and are not as pure as some of the below $20 a month ones, so check them out carefully.

If you follow these tips you will be able to select the very best pharmaceutical fish oil and start enjoying all the many benefits without any of the risks.

If you would like to learn more about the high quality DHA fish oil supplements I personally take daily, visit my website today.

Pharmaceutical reps have a mostly negative image to overcome when venturing out into other medical sales areas–often deserved, but sometimes not. If you’re a hiring manager, you shouldn’t dismiss a pharma candidate out of hand–it should be a decision based on the individual, with many factors to consider. If your friendly medical sales recruiter has submitted such a candidate to you, there must be a reason. If you’re a pharma sales rep looking to move into laboratory, clinical diagnostics, biotech, medical device, or other healthcare sales jobs, you should know what you’re up against, as well as how to deal with it.

NEGATIVES:

POTENTIAL POSITIVES:

What do I think, as a medical sales recruiter?

I won’t submit a candidate who has worked for more than 2 pharmaceutical companies. Why? Because they must have liked that environment in order to have stayed in it, which means that they won’t like the vastly different environment in laboratory, clinical diagnostics, medical device, biotech, pathology, or imaging sales.

I won’t consider a candidate who won’t concede that pharmaceutical sales is a detailing process, not a selling process. Why? They are disconnected with reality. Pharma reps, however successful they have been, do not follow a sales process in which they have to close a sale and ask for the business.

I won’t consider a pharma rep who is more interested in base salary than in total comp. Why? This is obvious: A great sales rep will be much more interested in sales commissions, because they expect to do well and make money off their efforts.

I won’t consider a pharma rep who can’t provide me with a manager reference (although I really won’t do this with any candidate). Why? In this day of LinkedIn, etc., it’s ridiculous to say you can’t keep in touch. That’s a red flag for me.

On the other hand, I would be interested in a pharmaceutical rep with a science degree who

(1) hasn’t been in the pharma area long and has realized it’s not the place for him/her, or

(2) has had some success with a real sales process in the past and wants to get back to it, or

(3) some combination of these with significant motivations to get out of pharmaceuticals, as well as a realistic attitude about pay and position.

North American Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Market Analysis and Forecasts to 2020 This report provides in-depth analysis of the North American active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) market and presents revenue forecasts up to 2020 for the United States and Canada. The report is based around the two major product types, namely, synthetic API and biotech API. Revenue forecasts are provided for both the product types. The synthetic API market is further analyzed based on the customer base – generic and innovative sectors. This study also provides detailed insights into the factors affecting the dynamics of the market with strategic analysis of the major trends. Market share analysis of the major companies in the whole North American market is also covered in the report. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/North-America-Active-Pharmaceutical-Ingredients-Market-Analysis-and-Forecasts-to-2020.html ) Economic Crisis Slows the Revenue Growth of the North American API Market The current global economic crisis has negatively affected the North American API market leading to a drastic reduction in its growth. The economic crisis has necessitated the need for the governments to reduce their expenditure even in the healthcare sector. Therefore, in an attempt to realize significant savings of the healthcare expenditure, there is a shift away from the high-priced innovative drugs in the United States and Canada. This has resulted in a significant slowdown in the revenue growth of the North American API market. In 2009, the North American API market is set grow at a rate of around 2%. Biotech APIs Set to Drive the Overall Growth of the API Market in North America The biotech API market in North America is geared for a higher growth which is set to drive the overall growth of the API market. The increasing demand for the biological drugs is boosting the demand for the biotech API in the market place. Also, the technological advancement in the pharmaceutical industry is paving way for newer biotechnology drugs. The pharmaceutical industry is also optimistic about the approval of biogeneric drugs which is expected to create further growth in the development of the biotech API market. This will boost the growth of the biotech API market making it to grow at a rate significantly higher than the synthetic API market. The biotech API market is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 13% from 2008 to 2020. Generic APIs Get a Boost Due to the Cost-Containment Measures in North America Canada Poised to Increase its Revenue Share in the North American API Market The Canadian API market, which held a revenue share of around 6% in 2008, is bound to increase its share to 7% in 2015. The Canadian API market is characterized by an emerging biotech API product segment which is growing fastest in the North American market.

Just what is pharmaceutical grade fish oil and do you need it? Surprisingly, the answer is no but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take fish oil supplements. Just be careful about some of the claims made on the label.

What does ‘pharmaceutical grade fish oil’ mean? It refers to products that have been highly refined (‘ultra-refined’) to rid them of impurities and contaminants.

Now contaminants are a major cause for concern in oily fish, since most of the waters where species such as salmon, mackerel and tuna are caught are likely to be contaminated with mercury, PCBs and dioxins.

These contaminants are extremely bad for your health, causing developmental problems in children, cancers, fertility problems and birth defects.

So it stands to reason that you would want a product that removes these substances.

Unfortunately, pharmaceutical grade fish oil is, in essence, a meaningless term. There is no globally recognized standard to define what it means. The US Pharmacopeia does not yet have a monograph to regulate it. The US Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) has a voluntary monograph based on various international standards but not all manufacturers heed it.

Even the US FDA, which as some rather low standards for purity, makes no requirement that omega supplements meet any pharmaceutical standard.

But there is another way to get supplements with a very high standard of purity and freshness without making spurious claims about any non-existent standard.

How can this be done? By sourcing species from waters that are not contaminated by mercury, PCBs and dioxins in the first place.

One such area is the Southern Ocean, off the coast of New Zealand. There is only one fish oil supplement I know of that is made of species sourced from this area. The oil is molecularly distilled to remove any tiny hint of contamination and it has been tested by government laboratories to guarantee that its purity is greater than any so-called pharmaceutical grade fish oil.

Instead of claims about meeting non-existent standards, you simply get what you pay for: pure, safe, effective omega 3 supplements.
